Salt Circle VFX – Dead by Daylight

Created a custom ritual-themed visual effect for seat placement and zone indication, featuring fully designed assets and dynamically animated behavior.

Asset Creation:

  • Custom Ring Mesh: Modeled in Blender to serve as the base geometry for the salt circle.

  • Salt Texture: Created in Substance Designer for a natural, granular appearance.

  • Icon Mesh: Custom mesh made from UI texture used for symbolic or ritualistic center detailing.

Shader & Material Work:

  • Salt Shader: Designed to simulate granular salt behavior.

  • Erosion & Emissive Pulse Materials: Designed to mimic natural salt dispersion and subtle magical glow over time.

  • Salt Splotches: Placed around the ring to indicate seating positions.

VFX Implementation:

  • Niagara VFX: Added ambient and particle elements to bring the salt circle to life.

  • Blueprint Integration: Animated float values, material parameter control + user param control.

  • Timed Intensity: Full VFX sequence runs for 1.5 minutes, with all parameters progressively intensifying for dramatic buildup.
